Why We Don't Find Time for What We Want to Do! And How to Start.

My uncle called me today. He asked about my plans for Id-Ul-Fitr and I told him I didn't have any. Well, because, it's not a holiday I've ever celebrated. 

Just like life, we only make time for the things that are important to us. Anything that you've had results with, is because of the time you've invested in it. 

Like me, self-development is important. I want to be fit physically and mentally. But I don't pursue self-development consciously. At the back of my mind, I want it to happen. As if out of magic, I want to one day look in the mirror and like what I see. 

But it's not going to happen while I sit on my hands. 



Today, I realized that happiness is not automatic and so is success. If you don't make conscious decisions about doing the things that make you happy it will never happen. 

So, how do you go about finding time for what you want to do?

Start With 15 Minutes a Day 

If what makes you happy is not what you do every day, start spending fifteen minutes on that thing that's important to you. 

Say you love drawing but you never have the time. While 15 minutes is not enough to accomplish anything, your cumulative efforts will soon result in something tangible. 

If you love baking, watching YouTube videos will not make you a baker. Gather ingredients make one cupcake. It may be just a cupcake to others. But to you, it's a start. 

15 minutes is all you need to start living a happier life. No More living in the past.

Before the end of the day, you can look forward to the 15 minutes you'll be creating something, exercising, singing, reading because it's what makes you happy. 

Create a To-Do-List

The reason we are constantly overwhelmed with stuff is that there's just too much to do on any particular day. 

A To-Do-List gives you a mental order of things. You don't need to accomplish everything in one day. But at least you'll find gaps in your schedule so you can find time for something small that is important only to you. 

Prioritize, Prioritize, and Prioritize Some More

Why did you stop prioritizing? 

You may be all set with a to-do list only to realize that the most important thing to do is last on the list. So, you don't have enough time for it.

If it was a priority, it would be first on your list so you don't have to rush while at it.

Today, choose your priorities. It may be the only good thing you do for yourself!!

They say time is the most powerful resource, it's something beyond our control and that's why it's so precious. 

Until we realize that we can be masters of the time we have, stay energized, and do the things that we enjoy, can we say we are truly happy.
