Regrets! How to Stop Living in the Past

I'm not the easiest person to live with. Those who know me know that I'm kind of a perfectionist. I demand the best of myself and of those around me. That's why I find it hard to let go. I usually hold on to something until it no longer makes sense.

This brings us to today's topic.

If you are anything like me, you may not recognize that you are living in the past until someone points it out. You mostly use I could have, should have, and might have constantly in your life. You may have done something that you deeply regret, but you've never moved on because you wish you could go back and change what happened.

It's like when trust is lost. Sorry means nothing.

Today, I want to tell you that regrets are completely normal. In fact, regret is the second, mostly-felt emotion after love. Anyone who does not have regrets is not living.

Every experience that you've had in life shaped the person you are today.

If you are finding it hard to move on, to heal, and to forge ahead, I've prepared this list of practices to help you find your footing and live life free of regrets.

Forgive Yourself!

One of the worst things that we do to ourselves, is carrying around our mistakes like a burden. Many are the times I beat myself up for making a regrettable decision and going on wishing I could back and choose better.

But the person who made the bad decision is not the same person today. You've changed. You've learnt to do things differently. You've gone through different experiences. You are more knowledgeable and wiser now.

Forgive youself! Be kind to yourself! Let go and start living in the present.

Claim Your Life!

Sometimes we make decisions based on what other people will think of us.

What will your mother say. What will your uncles say? Will the neighbors approve?  If you are always afraid about what others will say, your life will fleet away before your very eyes.

Make a concious decision to forge your own path because one day, your life will be gone.

Find Humor in Life

It's never that serious. Life is not being a perfect human being. Find the little things that make you happy. Take a break and laugh like there's no tomorrow.

Tell Your Loved Ones You Love Them

One thing that most people don't say is "I Love You." From your romantic partner to your parents, siblings, friends, grandparents, etc. Make sure to let them know you love them and appreciate them.

Tomorrow is not guaranteed. Say I love you and see how your life will improve.

Feel Your Emotions

Don't hold it all in. Stop playing a strong person all the time. Afterall we are all human.

Let the tears flow. Scream into a pillow if you must. Kick a rock into the pool. Do it until you are in control of the life you are living now.

Only, don't let your emotions control you.

Follow Your Dream

I'm all about living life to the fullest. This can only happen if you follow your dreams. Like I said, life fleets away like the seasons. It's time you pursue the longings of your heart.

It's time you live life to your fullest potential.

Today, I'll leave you with this quote:

"If you want to fly on the sky, you need to leave the earth. If you want to move forward, you need to let go the past that drags you down." Amit Ray

Who Am I?

Everyone reading this post has enormous potential for success.  But ask yourself this.  What makes you come alive? When you wake up in the morning, are you angry that the alarm went off? Or do you get out of bed ready to conquer? The thing is.  If you don't know your purpose, you'll never be happy that another day has dawned. That's why I'm asking you today- What makes you come alive?  For me, just writing down an inspiring message is enough to make me feel happy. I appreciate that God has gifted me with great communication skills to put down a paragraph that makes sense. It's not automatic.
